Empowerment groups allow members of rural communities to come together to save their money, take out loans, and invest in business, sustainability, health, or education. In rural areas, there are often no banks and few opportunities for people to overcome the obstacles created by poverty. Empowerment groups serve as rural-tailored microfinance.
This purchase will fund a fifth of the operating costs of an Empowerment Group. These savings groups can operate indefinitely, but frequently have a life cycle of 7-12 years.
This purchase will help fund the launch of an Empowerment Group in one of the following countries: Burundi, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Dominican Republic, Ethiopia, Haiti, Mexico, Tanzania, or Thailand.
